Anna-Marie Buss Artist “Comfortably Unconventional”

Anna-Marie Buss is an evocative painter whose work blends the ethereal beauty of the Pre-Raphaelites with the dreamlike qualities of Surrealism and the emotional depth of her own experiences. Her art merges reality with the unreal, where vivid colour and layered symbolism create hauntingly beautiful visual narratives.

Influenced by nature, travel, and literature, Anna-Marie’s paintings reflect both serenity and darkness, mirroring her journey through life’s complexities. Her intuitive use of colour brings emotion to the forefront, harmonies and contrasts that evoke both tension and release.

Often featuring self-portraits, her works are intimate and theatrical explorations of identity, using props and costume to transform personal experience into performance. Behind the beauty lies a thread of resilience, shaped by a challenging childhood that infuses her art with fragility and strength.

Working from her Kent countryside studio, Anna-Marie develops projects sparked by fleeting ideas or emotions. Her work is held in private collections in the UK and abroad, she continues to exhibit at the Beumée Gallery, and creates bespoke commissions that reveal the ongoing evolution of her distinctive artistic voice.
