Collection: Swimming with Saffron

Swimming with Saffron is a vibrant and playful painting series inspired by the breathtaking yellow fields of rapeseed that sweep across the Kent countryside like oceans of saffron. These stunning landscapes, right on my doorstep, have long captured my imagination and in 2007, they sparked a vision: what if I could swim through these golden waves, just like a starlet from a Busby Berkeley musical?

With a nod to Technicolor dreams and 1930’s glamour, a dear friend and I set out early one not-so-warm morning, armed with vintage-inspired clothing, accessories, and my camera. Back in the studio, I began digitally reimagining the photographs, adding quirky touches like flower-themed oversized hats. The result is a series that feels both nostalgic and modern, where vintage elegance brushes with a contemporary twist.

Swimming with Saffron brings joy, warmth, and a sense of theatrical escapism. Each piece is a celebration of colour, imagination, and the quirky beauty of everyday magic - the perfect conversation piece for any home.
