Inspired by an early morning walk at Camber Sands, A Study in Brimstone captures the raw, fleeting majesty of sunrise. The golden light was so striking that it demanded to be painted, leading to an experiment in contrast and spontaneity. Built upon a foundation of bright underpinning of yellow, the scene takes form through bold layers of black, allowing the luminosity beneath to shape the composition. A distant tower stands as a quiet symbol, while the silhouette of a young woman with a basket adds an air of mystery and narrative. The result is an evocative interplay between light and shadow, very unpredictable, yet full of life.
