Turner's Red

Turner’s Red is a visceral exploration of texture and tone, a painting born from the remnants of a previous work that left behind a rich, tactile surface. Inspired by J.M.W. Turner’s dramatic use of light, colour and brushstroke, the piece began with a bold, crimson undertone - a pulse of raw energy. Layer upon layer was applied with an intuitive hand, each mark revealing and concealing, allowing unexpected forms to emerge. A single white highlight cuts through the centre, a striking contrast that breathes life into the dark expanse. The result is a painting that feels alive, vibrant, commanding, and fiercely unapologetic. If there were one painting to keep, to live alongside, it would be this one.
